El Elrington

GENRE: Jazz, improvisation, free jazzIt worth a try!

Label: Stasisfield
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 1:45:12
Canadian musician El Elrington offers up an epic double set of unedited, unprocessed saxophone improvisations. The first hour-long piece consists of amazingly sparse, sustained breath work, vibrations of reed which evoke everything from synthesized sounds to weather patterns, bubbling brooks and boiling pots. The second, shorter piece begins almost bombastically in contrast, a nearly loud buzzing which, while immediately recognizable as an instrument, still manages to evoke mystery as to its origins. The performative energy gradually fades until the piece becomes more negative space than positive: breeze through leaves, air surrounding branches.
