TrianguliZona – Flossy

TrianguliZona

GENRE: Jazz, Nu Jazz, Experimental, MinimalismIt worth a try!

Label: Test Tube
Release date: 2007
Total running time: 0:42:52
«Under the media hype-fueled turmoil, in deeper underground zones lives a multitude of organisms, which discreetly threads its way seeking the opportunity to call our attention. Such is the case of the Croatian collective TrianguliZona. Ivan Kapec (electric guitar and electronics), Andrej Jakuš (trumpet, flugelhorn and electronics), Janko Novoselić (drums) and Vladimir Končar (video), have been working in the confluence of different languages in modern music, a complex reality which, pointing at several directions, blurs the borders between genres and styles. From electro-jazz with distant references to 70’s electric Miles Davis, to ambient-flavored experimentalism, to Steve Reich’s minimalism, going through dub and loop techniques, all framed with a live improvisation setting, there are recognizable signs in the music of TrianguliZona. This blend results in a homogenous sound, with an experimental flavor. Instant composition as a result of the sound-image interaction, in which sound and vision acquires a special place in live performances. The main impression is jazz-fusion, based on progressive electric guitar, trumpet with pedal and electronic effects, and this mighty groove, balanced with creativity and good taste. Melodic and hypnotic, delicate and subtle, the TrianguliZona sound is likely to become the soundtrack to that special road trip. It grabs us, sooner or later.» – Eduardo Chagas

Cool Devices – Cool Devices

Cool Devices

GENRE: Rock, Alternative, Hard Rock

Label: Rock Proper
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:20:29
The difference between zero and one is very subtle, one is zero and zero is one, there isn’t any difference. But in the end, it’s all we’ve got. When I asked to join the pirate ship called Cool Devices, my heart was in the gutter, my mind was clouded with chemicals and false expectations, my confusion was at an all-time high and my love for life was at its lowest.
Enter Jason Frederick.
Poet, painter, newlywed, freak, lover of life, speaker of mind, whistle blower, thirty-something angry teenager, ball-buster supreme.
Here’s a secret few people know…
Jason is truly a protector of all things living. I have seen the man go out of his way to assist a fruit fly through the billowing curtains of a cramped bed-stuy apartment, increasing its life expectancy exponentially. I was that fruit fly.
What most people know is that Jason rages openly at all living things.
His claim to fame is his ability to scream into the microphones of small midwestern clubs. I’m not sure if you have had the luxury of staring down the dented globe of an SM-58 at an angry mob, but it was here that I learned “FUCK YOU!!” can sometimes mean “I love you” and vice versa.

Mahi Bukimi – The Forests of Kur Zeme

Mahi Bukimi

GENRE: Electronic, Classical, Ambient, Dark Ambient, PsychedelicIt worth a try!

Label: Silent Flow
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:38:12
The album guides the listener into the impressive and psychedelic trips through the forests around the Baltic sea, through the leaves and lakes, through baroque forest lights, the stars and the shadows, where you will never feel alone, where all the way at warm summer nights and foggy autumn mornings is full of beautiful emotions and transparent feelings – the things, that are not changing with the centuries.
“Kur Zeme” is a project of Mahi Bukimi, started in 2003. Stylistic directions of it can be described in many ways – neoclassic, synth-ambient with the elements of nature music, as well as psychedelic improvisations, new age and impressionism. It is hard to define the feeling of roomy seas and forests, karmic emptiness and joy, gothic and infospace, if you are using the rational words Composer leaves this “task” to the listeners. “Kur Zeme” is a word play in Latvian. “Kurzeme“ is one of the historical districts of Latvia, but “kur zeme” means “where the land is”. Artist is looking for the balance in using modern equipment and feeling the nature, making an electronic music and composing in traditions of the baroque musician.

sleepmakeswaves – In Today Already Walks Tomorrow

sleepmakeswaves

GENRE: Rock, Post Rock, Post Metal, InstrumentalIt worth a try!

Label: Lost Children
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:38:12
Two fitting introductions to sleepmakeswaves first full EP, ‘In Today Already Walks Tomorrow’, following their earlier demo EP released on Lost Children, and for more quotes of gushing praise visit the band’s myspace, or forums around the internet, just in case you have any doubt as to the quality of this release. Originally self released in early 2008, ‘In Today….’ went on to appear in many top releases of the year lists and pushed sleepmakeswaves higher among the ranks of the post-rock masses.
2009 looks to be another promising year for sleepmakeswaves, an upcoming split album this Spring with fellow Aussies, the jazzically brilliant, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, writing for a future full-length of their own, hopefully a few more shows to cement their bright future, and all starting with this Lost Children release of their EP to spread the word further.

02 – Exits To Nowhere
03 – One Day You Will Teach Me To Let Go Of My Fears
04 – So That The Children Will Always Shout Her Name
