Kutfingerz – Human Spaces

Kutfingerz

GENRE: Electronic, Minimal, Techno, Dub

Label: Phonotactics
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:37:30
“In 2009 I was introduced to Kutfingerz while sitting and drinking some beers in a hostel in Lisbon.
Were talking about music and its various strands within the hip hop culture.
It was with great interest that I discovered his music and his whole philosophy of humanism and design. What I’m pleased to share with you all now perfectly illustrates the quality of its productions, the detail of diggin in a culture that increasingly synthesizes itself. Christophe the man behind the beats, is a man aware of the design culture and also part of a brain behind the collective FROM PARIS..check the link for more info about. I think nobody can remain indifferent to the jazzy feeling, spiced with a touch that only the French culture could dock and slice.
At last I must advise… all fans of Jay Dee or Madlib will enjoy for shure hearing this Human Spaces.”

Planet Boelex – Raja

Planet Boelex

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, ChilloutIt worth a try!

Label: Soft Phase
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:29:12
“Many musicians defy musical convention. Very few can transport the listener beyond established boundaries without leaving them feeling lost. For six years, Planet Boelex has been creating music that is quite simply out of this world. So, it’s playfully fitting that ‘Raja’, this much anticipated EP from the Finnish musician, is a title that translates as ‘boundary’ or ‘limits’. Over five elegant, entrancing tracks, ‘Raja’ has the capacity to transport you high above the clouds and hundreds of leagues below the surface of the ocean. It redefines melody, and somehow teases sublime sonic compositions from static. This is organic electronica, underpinned by glitched beats that could come from chattering computers abandoned on a scrapheap. Planet Boelex spins on a slower axis
this time around. The results, at times majestic and reflective, mournful and uplifting, bring lasting rewards to listeners old and new.” — Matt Whyman
Available in FLAC!

aAirial – Incoercible

aAirial

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, IDMIt worth a try!

Label: Breathe Compilations
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:40:15
“Another significant album full of passion, sentiment, a mixture of melancholy and joy. A polar cold, warmth of spring, rhythms of piano notes and synth that caress my ears. Gloomy or joyful sounds, organic sounds, playing with us and roam from one ear to the other as to avoid catching the hammer falls on the anvil and telling us: “a delight from aAirial.”
A new album with sounds of aAirial, will he stay with the moment?
Each album is unique, listen closer, unique, but all his albums interlaced become a harmonious whole and as indivisible. So few words and phrases in my text because unspeakable is aAirial. Who can be irresistible?” – J.R.

Janne Hanhisuanto – Icescapes

Hanhisuanto

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, New Age, Space MusicIt worth a try!

Label: Earth Mantra
Release date: 2007
Total running time: 0:44:16
Earth Mantra is very happy to welcome Finnish ambient composer Janne Hanhisuanto to our humble netlabel, with his beautiful new album Icescapes. We have a real treat in store for you with this release, which is a collection of smooth and utterly gorgeous ambient tracks. Ranging from tranquil synthesized tone poems, to gentle acoustic piano pieces, to pulsing electronic compositions, there is truly something for everyone in this exquisite album.
As one might surmise from the title, the music in Icescapes was inspired by water in winter; icy cold, white and mysterious atmospheres, natural ice sculptures, and enigmatic marks in snow all inspired Janne to compose this succulent music. He also intentionally ‘warmed up’ the music towards the end of the album, to evoke the emergence of spring, as “ice melts, snow melts, water starts to run, and outside temperature is increased”. A very nice touch.
Janne reports that Icescapes is the first in a series of “water movements” releases that he has been pursuing, with the second release currently under construction. He is also considering a related video installation, a collection of pictures and videos combined with the music, another work in progress. We are very excited by these concepts and hope that he shares these with us as he develops them.
We are particularly struck by the strength of the compositions. As if the sheer opulence of the sounds was not enough, this is music that one can really sink one’s teeth into. The melodies are achingly lovely, the chord sequences are fresh and mature, and the evolution of the pieces combines both elements of traditional structure and modern serialism. Really, really well thought out music.
And so we are very proud to introduce Janne Hanhisuanto to the Earth Mantra audience, and are very inspired by Icescapes, his latest masterwork. An outstanding album that is a must-hear for anyone who appreciates soothing, tonal ambient music, and one that certainly should be counted amongst the top light ambient albums of 2010.

Sion – Smoky Jazz Dub

Sion

GENRE: Jazz, Electronic, Chillout, Lounge, DowntempoIt worth a try!

Label: Self
Release date: 2007
Total running time: 0:23:09
Over the last 12 years I have written many tracks which are a fusion of – ambient, goth, dance, trance, drum ‘n’ bass, lounge and jazz. In 1999 I released my first ‘real’ album which contained tracks from all of the above genres. Since then I have written many new tunes which have remained mostly unreleased. Some time ago I decided that rather than release all new music in a single album which covered all the genres, I would instead start grouping my various tracks in to themed compilations giving them a more natural flow from start to finish through the whole album. To date I have written 6 albums as well as many other tracks that are waiting to be compiled and released.
Some of those albums have been available through my websites or local shops for a while now, but now I’ve decided to make some of these albums available for free.

The Sunshine Family – The Love of the Sunshine Family

The Sunshine Family

GENRE: Electronic, Lounge, ChilloutIt worth a try!

Label: id.eology
Release date: 2006
Total running time: 0:26:17
When your mood is being ruined by a single look out of your window, when you don’t dare to step out of your door without thermal clothing on and the reptile part of your brain would prefer to hibernate, you can of course get cosy in front of the fireplace with a nice cup of tea, hoping that the world will look a wee bit friendlier soon. On the other hand, you could also pass that idle time with The Sunshine Family.
The first ep of the new star in the iD. sky sounds like one huge cool cocktail that you enjoy on the hottest day of the year while laying on a comfy couch with skilled hands giving your neck an extraordinarily soft massage. And similar to a well-mixed drink, The Sunshine Family pour only the finest ingredients into the glass. Be it soft loungebeats, psychedelic vocals, fascinating ambient-spaces or complex jazzy sounds – the individual parts always merge and add up to become one warm, harmonic and tasteful whole.

Speaking of taste, it goes without saying that all this gets stirred, not shaken. After all, this ep is way more scrumptious and sweeter than any martini of your choice.

CHRISS ONAC – Rien ne va plus

CHRISS ONAC

GENRE: Jazz, Funk, Groove, Chillout, LoungeIt worth a try!

Label: Jamendo
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:41:06
Loves all musical genres from Jazz to Classic with a clear preference for the seventies, a period of research and a variety of musical innovation: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Camel, Eagles, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Lynnyrd Skynyrd, Santana … …., but other musical periods and other styles are quite decent and never fail to influence my compositions …….
I’m returning to my first love, more sax, more funk and groove.
I hope you take as much pleasure in discovering that I had while writing.

Byron – Forbidden Drama

Byron

GENRE: Rock, Art-Rock, Progressive Rock, AlternativeIt worth a try!

Label: A & A REcords
Release date: 2006
Total running time: 1:07:27
byron was founded in 2006 and released their debut, “Forbidden Drama”, in October 2007. Their music is extremely difficult to classify, due to the very diverse influences it bears – from Thrak-era King Crimson, Dream Theater or late Pink Floyd to Noir Désir, Radiohead, Coldplay, Gorillaz, going through My Brightest Diamond, Lamb and Tori Amos up to Prince and David Bowie. This music has it all – feeling, insight, instrumental proficiency, smart lyrics.
Dan’s voice is a maelstrom of feeling, and that’s just a lame scratch on the surface. Going from soft and warm (Watercolor, Toast Proposal) to almost tormented (the ending of Annoying Detail), to harsh and abrasive (Losing Control), all the way spiced with specific, wild-on-the-verge-of-insanity vocal harmonies (most notably on Blow Up My Tears). The keyboards work also shines, with brilliant, prog-inspired interventions every now and then (Losing Control, The Dawn of a Drunk Bum, Fake Life) and the guitar work is rock-solid. The use of flute on several tracks also works miracles, bringing a certain distinctness to the whole. Did I say Jethro Tull? Well, you get the picture.
