Huunter – The Ultraviolet Catastrophe

Huunter

GENRE: Classical, Electronic, Avant-Garde, Experimental, DanceIt worth a try!

Label: Huunter Records
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:39:34
Huunter (born Lloyd Bourne; March 15, 1988) is an American electronic musician. He released his debut CD ‘Shantih’ August 20th 2008. And his new album “The Ultraviolet Catastrophe” in the spring of 2010.
“The Ultraviolet Catastrophe” is an exploration into avant-garde/classical dance music. Inspired from the four-to-the floor beats of European dance artists and recorded using only classical instruments and ideas to create “The Ultraviolet Catastrophe”.
Huunter is an artistic pseudonym created as an umbrella under which Lloyd Bourne publishes all of his visual and musical endeavors. Huunter’s debut album, Shantih, is a minimalist classical album dedicated to the life of his late grandmother. After the sucessful release of Shantih Huunter returned to his home studio to concentrate writing a new album and a new artistic direction.
Observing crowds of people respond so viscerally to four-on-the-floor beats of modern dance music, Huunter was inspired to create a similar effect using only classical instruments. After months composing and arranging the result is The Ultraviolet Catastrophe.
These four tracks take you on a forty-minute journey through avant-garde, classical and dance influenced music. The Ultraviolet Catastrophe represents a new direction for the future of Huunters music.

Hintanoi – Wabi

Hintanoi

GENRE: Electronic, Experimental, Improvisation, Avant-Garde, AmbientIt worth a try!

Label: Merzbau
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:41:17
Hintanoi is sound at it’s most pure state. Everything you can hear is coming from deep inner nomadic paths.
This is a record of undefined melodies that mixes the marginally expressed jazz with modernism in its minimal form. Every track is a Walkabout of feelings and the sounds reflect them literally, crossing the border of style and leaving the listener with nothing but open hands filled with organic pleasure. It is of a rare and inestimable beauty.
Giovanni Di Domenico is an Italian with strong connections to Portugal, having already played a few times in the country. From that experience lasted an unique relation with the remarkable drums player, João Lobo, with whom he shares musical experiences throughout Europe.

Doc & Lena Selyanina – Vienna Blue

Vienna Blue

GENRE: Jazz, Jazz Rock, Neoclassical, AvantgardeIt worth a try!

Label: Musictrade
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:53:02
Vienna Blue is the seventh album from the Finnish producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina. Where their earlier production has been predominantly ambient in nature, these are more intense songs building strongly on Lena’s sophisticated piano compositions and her emotionally touching, expressive pianism. Stylewise the album moves in the genres of avantgarde, neoclassical, jazz and blues.
The album got its original inspiration from Franz Schubert and his music, Schubert being Lena’s favourite classical composer. Some tracks like Wanderer, Doppelgänger and Der Leiermann contain recognizable musical and thematic references to Schubert’s works; for the rest of the tracks, the association is more indirect. Get ready for an adventure into strangely beautiful and imaginative music!

Label: Comfort Stand
Release date: 2005
Total running time: 0:24:22
THE PRESERVING MACHINE adds to the well-received albums of reworkings of classics by Argentian composer and musician Lanark. Some would argue this album is his finest. Once again, he is humble about his talents, this time attributing the compositions to insects and machines.
He writes, “How to preserve music from oblivion… Put the sheet music on the machine. Wait. An insect or similar kind of animal is produced. Let it live and transform. Put it back on the machine. Wait. A new sheet music is produced. Play it. (over an idea by Philip K. Dick)”

Jozef van Wissem – A Priori

Jozef Van Wissem

GENRE: Classical, Minimalist, Avant-GardeIt worth a try!

Label: Incunabulum
Release date: 2008
Total running time: 0:37:24
Composer-lute player Jozef Van Wissem is renowned for his unusual approach of the Renaissance and Baroque lute, probably the most unlikely instruments in the world of contemporary music. He cuts and pastes classical pieces, reverses melodies, adds electronics and processed field recordings The unusual wedlock of composition and improvisation creates an unheard amalgam of contemporary folk and early music Van Wissem has accomplished the strange feat of bridging the idiom of seventeenth century lute literature and twenty-first century contemporary music Although he uses subtle electronic sound manipulation, he has largely stayed faithful to the particular timbre, resonance and playing technique of the lute. Van Wissem first came to be noticed a few years ago because of his radical conceptual approach to Renaissance lute music: He deconstructed existing compositions, for instance by playing them backwards. He also composed his own pieces for lute, using palindromes and mirrored structures. His music therefore does not have a traditional linear progression, nor leads to a climax, it rather stays on the same level of intensity. His music is not so much demands concentrated listening, as it will bring the listener in a state of concentrated listening.

Le Car de Thon – Nos meilleurs Stockhausen

Le Car De Thon

GENRE: Classical, avant-garde, contemporary

Label: Insubordinations
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:58:39
In August 2006 a new music ensemble was born in Geneva, Switzerland: the Car de Thon. But why should one build up a new ensemble when (too) many of them already exist? First of all because the Car de Thon mixes the qualities of many different ensembles, qualities of which the most significant is precisely the mixing itself. Secondly the Car de Thon has a very specific approach to art in general, and to the people receiving it in particular: the audience. This short article will try to give a quick outline of the Car de Thon’s main interests and ideas, and demonstrate how it has the nerves to call itself an “all audiences ensemble” when we only play so-called contemporary and experimental music and performing arts, which are for some reason believed to be elitist. mative energy gradually fades until the piece becomes more negative space than positive: breeze through leaves, air surrounding branches.
