Pandacetamol – Shiver Me Timbres

Pandacetamol

GENRE: Electronic, Dark Ambient, DowntempoIt worth a try!

Label: rec72
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:45:15
Shiver Me Timbres by Pandacetamol is a pure manifesto of sophisticated Electronica that sounds like Scottish pioneering electronic music from the 1990’s beamed up to the present time. The current Pandacetamol album delivers 50 minutes of gloomy downtempo doodlings, where The Black Dog goes snoopy and Plaid the cat is jumping on a hot tin roof.
The majority of Pandacetamol tracks are recorded in one take and then edited and polished as required. They wholeheartedly believe that this method of capturing the musical “moments” as they happen when a jam is in process is an essential component in conjuring electronic music that has an organic atmosphere and emotional edge. Dark but filled with hope, hypnotic but constantly morphing, opulent but sinister, their tracks are bite-sized journeys which together make up a full tasty meal of sound. Each of their EPs and albums are carefully composed to be enjoyed as a whole.

Ten and Tracer – You’ll Be A Hero Soon, Speaker

Ten and Tracer

GENRE: Electronic, IDM, Ambient, Downtempo

Label: Archaic Horizon
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:24:33
Jonathan Canupp, the fellow behind the name Ten and Tracer, gives us these previously thought to be lost songs as the album ‘You’ll be a Hero Soon, Speaker’. He says they come from one of the best and most transformative periods of my life and reflect a new expermintation in his music. As fans of Ten and Tracer’s early work would expect, this album is filled with the corrupted chords and detuned drones that listeners quickly learned to crave. Synths are ever mysterious, as they elusively pan the stereo field and compose emotive melodies.
While some tracks revolve entirely around ambient tones and melodies, drums remain an integral part of Ten and Tracers music. As Jonathan says, “they’re probably made out of tapping twigs and reproduced Rolands”. Whatever the case, for songs like ‘Dodecahedron Leads the Way’ and ‘Sometimes Tyne-Tees’ the rhythms become a more driving force. Their soft timbres and lively repetitions create a beautiful counter to the swelling, sustained chords so prominent in this album. Aside from this rhythmic play over ambient textures, Ten and Tracer laces in samples of obscured voices and clever references leaving much to be deciphered.
Available in FLAC!

Sion – Smoky Jazz Dub

Sion

GENRE: Jazz, Electronic, Chillout, Lounge, DowntempoIt worth a try!

Label: Self
Release date: 2007
Total running time: 0:23:09
Over the last 12 years I have written many tracks which are a fusion of – ambient, goth, dance, trance, drum ‘n’ bass, lounge and jazz. In 1999 I released my first ‘real’ album which contained tracks from all of the above genres. Since then I have written many new tunes which have remained mostly unreleased. Some time ago I decided that rather than release all new music in a single album which covered all the genres, I would instead start grouping my various tracks in to themed compilations giving them a more natural flow from start to finish through the whole album. To date I have written 6 albums as well as many other tracks that are waiting to be compiled and released.
Some of those albums have been available through my websites or local shops for a while now, but now I’ve decided to make some of these albums available for free.

Manuzik – Between 4 and 5

Manuzik

GENRE: Jazz, Electronic, ElectroJazz, Chillout, DowntempoIt worth a try!

Label: Jamendo
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:34:57
“Music is for me a hobby.
I’m influenced mostly by electronic work: from Vangelis to Röyksopp, with a never-ending list in-between. However, it’s Portishead that inspired my first true tracks.
I’ve always been willing to play music with my computer, from the first one I got. It started with Basic(!) programming, followed by the use of trackers.
I then had a short “hardware” period, with Electribes and RM1x, but I then came back to a configuration entirely based on Acid Pro, less troublesome. This new beginning is marked by a new pseudo: Manuzik.”

NCThompson – Another Quiet Winter

NCThompson

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, DowntempoIt worth a try!

Label: Soft Phase
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:22:01
Introducing and welcoming a new discovery, meet artist called NCThompson. We are pleased to announce the debut release from this american musician, who’s provided us with six wonderfully melodic little pieces that connect together as “Another Quiet Winter” EP. While the winter is still cold, one could absorb tiny bits of warmth through these dreamy, slightly melancholic tunes with plenty of beautiful piano lines, along with strings and downtempo rhythm. The day seems a bit lighter, we’re left hoping we could let you hear more works from this promising new talent in the future on Soft Phase.
Few thoughts from the artist himself:
“I think the title of this release almost says it all. These songs just seem connected by the loneliness of looking up and seeing nothing but a cold gray sky; when all that’s left is a longing feeling for times once passed. And as depressing as that may sound, I think there’s something to be said for the kind of emotions that such longing can inspire.”
Available in FLAC!

02 – For A Million

Two years since his latest release on the Budabeats netlabel, Crookram is finally coming out with a new album. If you’re familiar with his previous work this album might be somewhat of a surprise. It has been a couple of years in the making, during which time musical genres like soul, funk, hiphop and library music have been combined with modern downtempo beats and movie samples to create a funky yet dusty seventies vibe.

The Honey Sacrifice – Nights in Columbus

The Honey Sacrifice

GENRE: Electronic, Jazz, Rock, Downtempo, Post Rock, AmbientIt worth a try!

Label: Neo Ouija
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 1:11:49
The Honey Sacrifice was developed as a soundtrack to a film which is yet to be realized. The 13 tracks accredited to the album “Nights in Columbus” reveal the underlying tension between an ever promising future and the stark reality of the present in a ficticious urban zone of Columbus, Ohio. The interplay of the songs represents the struggle, the desolation, hopes realized and forgotten; laid before a solemn semblage of technology, communication and addiction. The various relations of the muscians/actors chronicle the human élan and its creative outpouring through self effacing methods and practices. The Honey Sacrifice asks to remain an album closer to a novel then a proper atmospheric soundtrack. The name refers to a chapter of Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None, an 1883 work by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The name’s relevance simply states the oppositional forces of things and situations desirable and the sacrifices made to achieve them. Captured digitally in 96 kHz, 24 bit resolution, production aspects were never compromised. Painstaking efforts have been taken to capture all the nuances of the individual performances throughout the soundtrack. Final production and mastering in Weimar, Germany in a spooky coal burning studio with Martin Hirsch behind the desk.
Available as WAV!
