Final Light – Further Than You Think

Final Light

GENRE: Rock; Post-Rock; Electronic; Instrumental; AmbientIt worth a try!

Label: Lost Children
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:35:14
‘Further Than You Think’ is the second album from James Morris under his Final Light guise, following two years on from his Lost Children debut album, ‘To Stop an Exploding Man…’, displaying increased maturity and depth in both song writing and production.
Beautiful piano lines interspersed amongst glitched beats, layered with delicate guitar lines, subtle samples and electronic, synth-like sounds to produce an often haunting, always harmonious and graceful soundscape. A great achievement and huge progression in such short time.

TRACKLIST
01 – The Journey
02 – Floating on a Cloud
03 – Somewhere in an Alternate Universe
04 – …You Still Don’t Understand
05 – I Know Now Why You Cry
06 – Return Journey

Zero-Project – Fairytale

Zero-Project

GENRE: Classical, Instrumental, Ambient, ChoralIt worth a try!

Label: Jamendo
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:47:27
Since I started composing and publishing music at the end of 2007, I had a little dream: A music fairytale, a story that evolves through music and has all these elements of an original fairytale: Fairies, knights, castles and -of course- a beautiful princess. Now, a couple of years later, this dream became true… Album starts with a remake of “Winter princess”, one of my first published songs. Music trip continues, with a moon waltz and a fairy dance, to a forest with unicorns and a forgotten castle… After a battle with darkness knights, there is a king who returns home, giving his princess a message of love. At the end of this fairytale, there is an intro of Cinderella story. I preferred an intro instead of an ending, because, when a story ends, another one begins… I am thankful to JB-Anastasia for giving her voice to this Cinderella intro. However, “End of a story” is the end song of the fairytale, but not of the album. After a fairytale adventure, “Dreamland” is fine for relaxing… This is the second remake of an older song. I am also thankful to “The Copyright Group” for allowing me to use at “Bless and glory” a part of Oscar Wilde’s “Vita nuova” poem, told so lyrical by actor Sean Barrett, recorded by Robert J. Nichol.

sleepmakeswaves – In Today Already Walks Tomorrow

sleepmakeswaves

GENRE: Rock, Post Rock, Post Metal, InstrumentalIt worth a try!

Label: Lost Children
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:38:12
Two fitting introductions to sleepmakeswaves first full EP, ‘In Today Already Walks Tomorrow’, following their earlier demo EP released on Lost Children, and for more quotes of gushing praise visit the band’s myspace, or forums around the internet, just in case you have any doubt as to the quality of this release. Originally self released in early 2008, ‘In Today….’ went on to appear in many top releases of the year lists and pushed sleepmakeswaves higher among the ranks of the post-rock masses.
2009 looks to be another promising year for sleepmakeswaves, an upcoming split album this Spring with fellow Aussies, the jazzically brilliant, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, writing for a future full-length of their own, hopefully a few more shows to cement their bright future, and all starting with this Lost Children release of their EP to spread the word further.

01 – I Will Write Peace On Your Wings And You Will Fly Over The World
02 – Exits To Nowhere
03 – One Day You Will Teach Me To Let Go Of My Fears
04 – So That The Children Will Always Shout Her Name

Celestial Aeon Project – Aeon

Celestial Aeon Project

GENRE: Classical, Instrumental, Piano, SoundtrackIt worth a try!

Label: Jamendo
Release date: 2006
Total running time: 0:33:31
Celestial Aeon Project is a one man project of Matti Paalanen. A soundtrack project with fantasy feel, it follows the footsteps of such composers as Jeremy Soule, Nobuo Uematsu and Danny Elfman. Produced in a home studio with virtual instruments and sample libraries, the soundscapes are at the same time nostalgic and modern.
Project originally was meant to offer background music for pen&paper RPG sessions, but has since become more broad in it’s musical spectrum and vision. It has received really good welcome from RPG players and game masters.

From The Sky – Like Crystal in a World of Glass

From The Sky

GENRE: Rock, Post Rock, Instrumental, AlternativeIt worth a try!

Label: Lost Children
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:41:28
From The Sky’s second release, mini-album ‘Like Crystal in a World of Glass’, was originally released in 2006 by Sound Devastation records and was well received for the young band. We now re-release ‘Like Crystal…’ on Lost Children in memory of the now defunct band as an accompaniment for their third release, EP ‘A Warm Place With No Memory’, which is also on Lost Children.
A more upbeat and energetic instrumental rock release than many post-rock releases in 2006, it laid the groundwork for From The Sky’s manic and often chaotic shows which commonly ended with the live favourite ‘Someone To Remember’ and very little of the stage left.
This version of ‘Like Crystal…’ also contains the previously unreleased version of ‘Needle Happy Paediatricians’ as a bonus track.

TRACKLIST
01 – Electric Snow
02 – When The Sun Sets The Clouds On Fire
03 – Position Of The Stars
04 – There Are Ghosts In The Glass
05 – Someone To Remember
06 – Needle Happy Paediatricians

Nic Bommarito – Harp Fragments

Nic Bommarito

GENRE: Rock, Post Rock, Instrumental, FolkIt worth a try!

Label: 12 REC
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:40:00
For his new LP “Harp Fragments”, Nic decided to hook up with us again. What luck! A lot changed since “Taciturn” and then again everything is the same. You have the dreamy melodies, the bitter-sweet melancholia, that specific Bommarito-feel of being lost in cinescope beauty.
While Nic Bommarito is still a loner (despite assistance from his buddy Michael Connolly on viola and harp), the sound on his new album is much more that of a band, a rock band even more. His rhythm section, slightly awkward back then, is replaced by thundering drums (listen to the first track “200 Sugar Packets” to get an idea!). Tender and fragile parts change with fuzz-soaked, shoegazing noise passages that never let miss melody and bliss. Everything is tight and dense, and although the production is not always hi-fi Nic found the perfect form for his beautiful, emotional music.

TRACKLIST
01 – Hymn For 200 Sugar Packets
02 – Schießengeistbären
03 – Folk Psychology
04 – Casiotone Waltz
05 – Better Then Way Too Post-Rock
06 – Lhasa
07 – Harp Fragments

Northvia explores the darker side of Carnival, hoping to reveal something more behind the mask.
