Sustainer – Cromosoma

Sustainer

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, MinimalIt worth a try!

Label: alterlabel
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:31:02
Alex Alarcón started his music adventures when he received during his childhood a toy synth as a present . This little device was used by him to play the songs he listened from his old brothers music collection, from vintage electronica to prog-rock, among others. Afterwards he began to play the guitar and recording-touring with a band, but then he discovered the advantages of working with synths, samplers and sequencers, he began to work alone as a unit.
Once he finished his university studies, he started to work in a musical instruments distribution company, dealing every day with music software and hardware, avoiding this to gain more technical skills for his music.
At 2003, he released his first LP on German label Italic under his Sustainer alias, heavily influenced by dubtech classics, while showing interest until nowadays, for non-beat oriented music, while curating some small festivals, managing his own and now defuncted record and book store, offering small audio workshops and widening his musical knowledges in sound design, electroacoustic music and field recordings.

Since 2008, his work is based on random self-generated music made with modular devices, acoustic instruments and amplified objects.

Kutfingerz – Human Spaces

Kutfingerz

GENRE: Electronic, Minimal, Techno, Dub

Label: Phonotactics
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:37:30
“In 2009 I was introduced to Kutfingerz while sitting and drinking some beers in a hostel in Lisbon.
Were talking about music and its various strands within the hip hop culture.
It was with great interest that I discovered his music and his whole philosophy of humanism and design. What I’m pleased to share with you all now perfectly illustrates the quality of its productions, the detail of diggin in a culture that increasingly synthesizes itself. Christophe the man behind the beats, is a man aware of the design culture and also part of a brain behind the collective FROM PARIS..check the link for more info about. I think nobody can remain indifferent to the jazzy feeling, spiced with a touch that only the French culture could dock and slice.
At last I must advise… all fans of Jay Dee or Madlib will enjoy for shure hearing this Human Spaces.”

Frank Molder – Come With Me

Frank Molder

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, MinimalIt worth a try!

Label: One Bit Wonder
Release date: 2007
Total running time: 0:52:53
As a young boy, Frank was an absolute model student: practicing on his piano every day. Some years later he started to look for new sounds: With Vangelis and Tangerine Dream electronic music came into his life – and soon he had his first keyboard. Over the years, he gathered quite a lot of equipment – and tracks as well. His techno productions are usually described as “Hey, sounds like Ken Ishii!” – always melodic and somehow hypnotic in a unique style. But what we especially appreciate his rich ambient and electro sound.
With this release, Frank steps up for another beautiful ambient release: Melodies and bass lines in perfect harmony, backed up by soft broken beats. Being a big fan of Juno6, Frank took his “Inside the Blue” and gave it the unique Molder handwriting while the title track “Come With Me” shows us another, previously undisplayed side of himself: forward striving and full of energy. This album impressively shows Frank’s producing abilities and his development as an artist. We say: Chapeau!

Djozr – Sad Songs

Djozr

GENRE: Electronic, Minimal, DroneIt worth a try!

Label: Petcord
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 1:10:19
The dynamics of constantly shifting sound fragments. Pulsating repetition as a means of diving into the essence of an idea. On Sad Songs, hist first album for the Petcord netlabel, Djozr (aka. Glenn Bryce) incorporates Microsound aesthetics, Minimalist music, reverberating drones and cut off clicks in his musical approach. Development takes place as addition and subtraction of acoustic, layers rather than through variations of a musical theme. One might suspect an approach like Djozr’s may result in something unlistenable, however Sad Songs appears warm and harmonic with a melancholic touch, much like the dampened light of a drizzly summer day.

Victoire – Live at WFMU’s Stochastic Hit Parade 5/24/2009

Victoire

GENRE: Electronic, Minimal, ClassicalIt worth a try!

Label: WFMU
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:35:57
Victoire, a Brooklyn-based band founded by composer Missy Mazzoli, has a distinct sound that harks back to the age of the gramophone (Victoire was once called “Victrola”, but RCA shut that down pretty quickly) but in a modern setting. Strings, clarinets and keyboards sweep around sounds ranging from sewing machines and answering machine tapes into what has been called “minimalist, post-rock bliss.” Victoire’s performance on WFMU is a wash of insistent harmony. Strings, piano, clarinet and a plethora of electronic accompaniments intermingle to create lilting soundscapes. Included is the newer song from composer Missy Mazzoli, “Like a Miracle,” as well as a piano and electronics excerpt from an opera she wrote, premiering on May 29th.

Tatsu

GENRE: Electronic, Techno, House, Minimal

Label: Bump Foot
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 0:29:04
“Tatsu opened the door to Bump Foot’s fifth year. Here comes his latest release, since “night walker EP” in 2007. All tracks are slower than previous releases, they are between 100 and 110 BPM. At the same time they are a bit more melodic tracks (especially tr. 2 and 3), it feels like they were influenced by IDM or lke that.”

Etienne Michelet – Calendaires

Etienne Michelet

GENRE: Electronic, Experimental, Ambient, Minimal, Classical

Label: Resting Bell
Release date: 2008
Total running time: 0:52:02
Etienne Michelet is a young composer and musician from France.
After his self-released works “Bleu Vespéral“ and “Le Piano à Coudre (The Sewing-Piano)“, this is the first release of his ongoing “Calendaires“-project, which moves in the fields of minimal, ambient, experimental music and classical music.
This “Calendaires“-release contains two parts, both together over 50 minutes long. Part one begins in a very dark context. Deep, growling bass sounds coming to the surface very slowly, bringing some motives and melodies with them. All these parts are layered together to a monumental and threatening wall of sound, which collapses and falls apart into a deep and dark soundscape again. Part two brings more light to the listener. Little chime-pieces lead to a wide field of melodies and sounds rushing around, bringing back memories.
