This work evokes a slower, more peaceful approach to life.

Cedar Lines is the electroacoustic project of composer John Harrison. A reliance on home recording equipment and layered improvisational sessions results in a unique sound driven by the quiet nostalgic energy that dominates the composer’s work. Galdson – Musical Landscapes

Galdson

GENRE: Classical, Piano, AmbientIt worth a try!

Label: Jamendo
Release date: 2006
Total running time: 0:23:51
“Ever since I took my first steps in the music world, I have always had a penchant for composition. Whether this was due to not wanting to make the effort to read sheet music, or to a non-conformist spirit leading me to seek new richness of tone and emotions which I couldn’t find in the studios, I don’t know. At the beginning, I produced very simple works which simply occupied part of my time. With time, and thanks to the musical and technical knowledge acquired in my studies, I started making richer and more complex arrangements, in which I invested ever more time and effort and which I enjoyed more and more every day. Composing became a part of my love for music. I could not conceive music without creating my own works, and that’s how the tracks which have given rise to my first album were born.”

Bosques de mi Mente – Nueve días de invierno

Bosques de mi Mente

GENRE: Classical, Contemporary Classical, Minimalism, Piano, AmbientIt worth a try!

Label: Clinical Archives
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:34:04
“Nine days of Winter” is an album of spontaneous, minimalist music for piano. By mid february my piano was to be tuned, and each time that happens I think that is a waste not using that days in which the piano keeps an almost-perfect tuning to record something. As I had no new stuff for piano, I decided to call my friends and fellow musicians from Madrid to meet during 9 days just to play, create spontaneous music and record everything, in order to publish the music later.
Unfortunately, none of my friends could join me for that nine days, so I decided to play and record them myself. The process took place between the 20th and 28th of February, days of cold weather, rain, wind and snow here in Madrid. This album is the result of that nine days of winter, a disc of melancholic, intimate, minimalist music. The songs are all improvised as they were recorded just while the music was being played, directly in first takes. Hope you’ll enjoy it.The cover pic is the work of my good friend and best photographer Diego Sevilla.

Zero-project – Disabled emotions suite

Zero-project

GENRE: Classical, Piano, SoundtrackIt worth a try!

Label: Zero-project
Release date: 2008
Total running time: 0:26:56
Sometimes in our life, it may be needed to fall, so that we start again our course, with reconsidered opinions, making more stable steps. This is the meaning of pseudonym “zero-project”. It describes a journey that starts from zero, but it stargazes…
I began to publish my compositions at the end of 2007 through this site and through musical internet communities. I believe that I don’t have something special to use as bio, everyone has his own story to tell, interesting, or not. Instead of words, I offer a part of my being: Music…
I also believe that regardless of the importance of our root and our destination, the most enjoyable is the trip between these two points…

Josh Winiberg – Those Nights

Josh Winiberg

GENRE: Classical, Contemporary, PianoIt worth a try!

Label: GrooveCaffee
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 1:13:03
“Those Nights” begins with “First Light,” one of the most haunting pieces I’ve heard in awhile.
A repeated note sets the rhythm for the gentle, atmospheric melody. Played at almost a whisper, it’s amazing how so few notes can be so powerful. This piece alone is worth the price of admission, as is its reprise at the end of the album. “Before the Storm” is a bit more complex but is also reminiscent of Eric Satie.
As the piece evolves, a variety of themes alternate with the original theme – very effective! “Return” is very quiet, introspective, and soul-searching, and was written during the time Winiberg was composing “Silent Embrace.” “Gathering Clouds” is a concept piece that begins very gently with lots of open space between the notes.
In the second section, the fluttering notes on the left hand could indicate wind. The third section picks up energy and turbulence as the clouds become more ominous. Winiberg paints a vivid picture of the beginnings of a major storm – sometimes calm, sometimes frightening – a great piece! Not surprisingly, “The Storm” follows with dark drama and lots of power. The quiet moments of this piece make the swirling storm even more effective. The title track is amazing.
Spontaneous yet cohesive, the various themes describe a pensive, reflective mood and let us in on the inner thoughts of the composer. “Stars In a Dark Blue Sky” is a bit jazzier in style, but is still slow and thoughtful. “From Within” is about letting the music take its time to emerge organically and for the composer to act only as a medium, not forcing anything. “Hidden By Shadows” is wistful, mysterious, and very moving. As I said, the electronica mix of “First Light” is as extraordinary as the solo piano version. If anything, the electronic sounds make the piece even more haunting – wind and electronic instrumental sounds add more colors and intrigue. Bravo, Josh Winiberg! Keep up the great work! – Kathy Parsons
